Monster Island Battle Pack (PDF)
by J B Goodwin Date Added: Thursday 17 March, 2005
First of all, if you're reading this, you probably have already purchased and played "Monster Island" (MI) and possibly some of its expansions. If you haven't, run and do so immediately. It's that kind of game. Kids and adults both can play this ridiculously fun game without feeling ridiculous.

What is the MI Battle Pack?

First of all, it's an update to the original game. MI told us how to make our own monsters, and gave us illustrations and lists of a bunch of pre-generated monsters. It also gave us a sheets of foldover stand-up cardstock miniatures of giant monsters. But not all of the monsters that were mentioned or illustrated in the original book were made into paper miniatures...until now. And not all of the monsters that were mentioned were given stats...until now.
There are four pages of statistics for these forgotten monsters, and two pages of color foldover miniatures of the heretofore unseen monsters.

Second, it's an update to the second expansion, "Invasion of Monster Island," in which a lot of new human and alien fighting forces and units were mentioned, without the benefit of paper miniatures. Now, here they are, so you can just jump into action. Five pages of color foldover miniatures and flat counters.

Third, it's a handy way to continue to play with the original foldovers from both "Monster Island" and "Escape from Monster Island." Paper miniatures sometimes die horrible deaths from which nothing can resurrect them...unless you have a handy PDF of the original sheets of miniatures from these game books. You can print out as many clones of mighty, flame-breathing Kajiro as you feel might be necessary to stop the invasion of Earth.

Some people like to play with plastic miniatures. That's great, but I don't have enough monster and army toys to play a big Monster Island Battle like I like to, so paper miniatures allow me to do it in an affordable way that I can easily store (or throw away and print another day, if I so desire).

So, all in all, this is a kit to help you enjoy one of my all-time favorite games. I would suggest that if you have ANY of the Monster Island games, this Battle Pack is a necessity!
